Have you ever wanted to play a ukulele or learn to play the blues? Now is your chance! The Museum travels to the Nashville Public Library’s Hadley Park Branch to offer budding musicians a chance to strum this popular Hawaiian instrument and play along with a professional harmonica player. In this fun, hands-on workshop, participants will learn and practice a few ukulele basics, then accompany special guest Carlos DeFord Bailey, a musician who performs in the tradition of his grandfather, Country Music Hall of Fame member DeFord Bailey. Also known as the “Harmonica Wizard,” DeFord was an influential harmonica player in both country music and blues, one of the Grand Ole Opry’s most popular early performers, and country’s first Black star.

Ukuleles provided or bring your own.

Recommended for ages 7 and up, but all are welcome.

Presented in support of the Nashville Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge.
