Have you ever wanted to learn to play the harmonica? Now’s your chance! Join us for a group harmonica lesson in honor of DeFord Bailey, one of early country music’s most popular performers and the genre’s first Black star. Although Bailey was a talented musician who played numerous instruments, he was best known as an expert harmonica player, earning the nickname “Harmonica Wizard,” and becoming one of the most famous harmonica players in the United States during the 1930s. In this lesson, participants will blow and draw on their very own “harp” (free while supplies last) with guidance from Carlos DeFord Bailey, DeFord Bailey’s grandson. Takes place at the William Edmondson Historic Homesite, 1450 14th Ave. S., Nashville, TN, 37212. All ages. Free.

Learn more about DeFord Bailey and see videos of him performing by visiting the Museum’s Discover DeFord Bailey webpage.
