Musician Spotlight: Andy May
Andy May is a guitarist, mandolin player, songwriter, educator, independent record label owner, and producer who began his career in the 1960s, in New York’s Greenwich Village folk music scene. While still in his teens, May performed at Carnegie Hall and won the Guitar Grand Championship at North Carolina’s Union Grove Old Time Fiddlers’ Convention. He has performed and worked with Merle Haggard, John Hartford, Brownie McGee and Sonny Terry, Pete Seeger, and others, and since 1991 has mentored hundreds of young musicians through his Acoustic Kids showcases. For his work on the 2007 album Everett Lilly & Everybody and their Brother, May won the International Bluegrass Association’s 2008 Recorded Event of the Year award. Ford Theater.
