Exhibit at Midwest Art Museum Includes Hatch Show Print

The Art of the Letterpress brings together four contemporary artists and designers and three institutions of letterpress history. Two exhibitions will present over 125 works of art taking a historic look at letterpress printing history combined with the latest innovations of letterpress-based graphic design and art revealing the ancient technology’s relevance in today’s digital world. The exhibition runs May 10-July 21, 2024.

Hatch Show Print will exhibit historic country music posters from their archives. Jim Sherraden, Master Printer Emeritus, Hatch Show Print; Cory Wasnewsky, Hatch Show Print designer-printer; Dan Brawner, professor of art at Belmont University, Nashville, TN; and Eric Woods, designer-printer-owner of Firecracker Press, St. Louis will exhibit their contemporary letterpress and relief print works of art.

Central Print from St. Louis will offer a one-day letterpress workshop at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, Mt. Vernon, IL.

On May 11, gallery talks by Celene Aubry, Director of Hatch Show Print; Jim Sherraden, Cory Wasnewsky, Dan Brawner, and Eric Woods are scheduled to open the exhibit at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, Mt. Vernon, IL. After the five speakers’ brief presentations there will be a Q&A session.The  Public is welcome and invited; admission is free.

Running concurrent with this exhibition, The Design & Print Work of Eric Wood & Firecracker Press was curated to complement The Art of the Letterpress. Eric Woods’ graphic design will be in the Beal Family Grand Corridor Gallery, next to The Art of the Letterpress gallery. Eric Woods will join fellow letterpress artists to speak on Saturday, May 11.

A letterpress workshop with Marie Oberkirsch, Director, Central Print, a St. Louis non-profit whose mission promotes the use of letterpress printing and printmaking will be held Thursday, June 13, 5-8 PM, as part of Cedarhurst’s Thursday Night Live Summer Program. The Public is welcome and invited; admission is free.

The Jefferson County Historical Society, Mt. Vernon, IL will open in conjunction with Cedarhurst their permanent exhibit of historic letterpress printing presses. The Historical Society is a short walk from Cedarhurst.

Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, located at 2600 Richview Road, Mt. Vernon, IL, is open to the public year round.
