Homeschool Day: String City: Nashville’s Tradition of Music and Puppetry
11:00 am-12:30 pm
1 Hr 30 Min
Learn about Nashville’s emergence as Music City and the history of country music through marionettes, rod puppetry, animation, and an ever-changing set. String City: Nashville’s Tradition of Music and Puppetry is a lively retelling of the city’s musical legacy, beginning with the early days of stringband and gospel music, as well as the birth of the Grand Ole Opry, and running through today. Nearly one hundred puppets portray some of country music’s key figures, and the show’s soundtrack is their classic songs. A unique way to introduce students to their city, String City brings history, visual arts, and music together onstage. Let your students discover a piece of Nashville’s cultural heritage in a fun, new way! Grades PreK–12. While space is limited, a minimum number of students is required for this program to take place. Free. Registration required.
String City: Nashville’s Tradition of Music and Puppetry is a co-production by the Nashville Public Library and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. String City was created and is presented by the Nashville Public Library’s Wishing Chair Productions in collaboration with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and was made possible in part by a special gift from Judy and Steve Turner to the Nashville Public Library Foundation.
