Have you ever wanted to play harmonica? Join us to learn about Country Music Hall of Fame member DeFord Bailey, “The Harmonica Wizard,” by taking a harmonica lesson!

A popular performer in the early days of the Grand Ole Opry, Bailey was country music’s first Black star. His innovative style of harmonica playing often referenced the sounds he heard around him, such as chugging trains and barking dogs. Bailey’s grandson, Carlos DeFord Bailey, will be leading this interactive workshop. Youth attendees will receive a free Hohner harmonica (while supplies last), DeFord Bailey’s preferred harmonica brand, for the lesson and beyond.

Recommended for ages 7 and up, but all are welcome. Presented in partnership with the 43rd Annual Tennessee Craft Fair, celebrating Tennessee’s fine craft tradition by connecting the public with emerging and experienced makers using resources that celebrates Tennessee’s handmade legacy.

Takes place at Centennial Park, 2500 West End Ave., Nashville, TN, 37203. For more information, visit TennesseeCraft.org. Free.

See videos of DeFord Bailey performing and learn more about him by visiting the Museum’s Discover DeFord Bailey webpage.
